Volunteer opportunity description

America SCORES Chicago is a youth service after-school programming organization that uses soccer, writing and service learning to combat obesity, illiteracy and poor decision-making in urban communities. With teamwork as the unifying value, students work together on the field and in the classroom to became agents of change in their community.

Being a Game Day Referee is a great way to get involved and to give back! All 500 students take the field week after week to play soccer with each other at a park located right in their community. Refs support the students by encouraging them throughout the game and helping to ensure a positive experience for all. With parents cheering on the sidelines, and teammates cheering from the benches, volunteer refs are truly a part of the entire Game Day experience.

Game Days take place at Douglas Park in North Lawndale. Volunteers are expected to arrive no later than 3:45pm and must be able to stay until 6:00pm. Volunteers may come anywhere from one day to all of them, depending on the individual's schedule.
